MCAC Baseball Athletes of the Week: Week of April 13-19
The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its baseball weekly awards for the week of April 13-19.
Chase Horstman, a right-handed pitcher for Rochester Community and Technical College, has been named this week's MCAC South Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week. In his one start, Horstman earned a win by giving up only three hits and no runs in six innings of work. He struck out six batters and didn't give up a walk in the complete-game shutout.
Peyton Ransom, second baseman for Riverland Community College, earned this week's MCAC South Division Baseball Position Player of the Week honor. Hitting .481 on the week, Ransom went 13 for 27 at the plate, with two doubles and a home run. He drove in five runs and scored 13, while walking four times. Ransom also stole four bases.
DaShaun Robinson, right-handed pitcher for Alexandria Technical and Community College, earned this week's MCAC Central Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor. Robinson threw 6.1 innings and picked up a win by giving up only one earned run on two hits and three walks. He struck out seven batters en route to the win, his second of the season.
Alexandria Technical and Community College third baseman Jonah DeJong earned this week's MCAC Central Division Baseball Position Player of the Week award. Going 7 for 15 at the plate, DeJong hit .467 on the week, driving in seven runs and scoring six. He hit one double and three home runs, while walking once. DeJong also stole a base and helped his Legends' team pick up their 10th straight win.
Minnesota North College - Rainy River right-handed pitcher Nick Colunga has earned this week's MCAC North Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week award. Taking the mound for 7.2 innings of work, Colunga went 1-1, giving up only three earned runs and six hits. He struck out four batters and did not walk anyone in his two appearances.
Christian Cortes, outfielder for Minnesota North College - Rainy River, earned the week's MCAC North Division Baseball Position Player of the Week award. Going 11 for 18 at the plate, and hitting .611 for the week, Cortes drove in three runs and scored six, while walking once. He hit a double and stole two bases, helping his team go 3-1 this week.
